How to put your kids on your Halloween Pumpkins.

If you have not yet carved your pumpkin, and are looking for inspiration, here are my pumpkins from last year.  I carved a pumpkin for each of my kids with their face on it. And it really wasn’t as hard as it looks.

For each of the kids, I took a picture of them, then fiddled with it in a photo editing program on the computer until it was a black and white image (I think the effect I used was called “stamp”.  Then, I printed out the picture in an appropriate size, and carved it just like you would a template from a book or online, by marking the outlines through the paper, then carving out the features.

Here’s what the process looked like:

Smiling Pumpkins

This project was inspired by the Jack-o-lantern fabric that I had laying around at the house.  Sometime in April, I put it in a stack of fabrics to be given away, and since I hadn’t done that yet, and October is now approacking, I decided to make something of it.  So, it became smiling pumpkin overalls.  The fabric at the cuffs only used a little of the fabric, so I added a peasant top to complete the outfit.  Sometimes I’m motivated only by the desire to sew “something” and not by any practical purpose.  So it was with this, as it won’t fit any child at my house.  It will be for sale, and hopefully some little cutie will enjoy wearing it this October.
